No matter how unique your palate is, you can be sure that there will be a restaurant, bar, or take-away in Carlisle for you. Pubs Pippins Pippins is ideally located beside the Lane Shopping Centre near the bus station in Carlisle. Refurbished in Summer 2004, there is one large bar area with communal seating all around in a new, trendy atmosphere. For warmer days try our small patio area outside. Being central to a shopping area we are the busiest place in town at lunchtimes with shoppers and business workers spending their lunch break with us. The Kings Head The Kings Head is situated in the historic Border City of Carlisle, right in the heart of the town centre. Easy to find for both visitors and locals, The Kings Head is on Fisher Street, which is behind the Town Hall and next to the Guildhall. This part of the city dates back to Medieval times, and ale is reputed to have been available on the site of The Kings Head as early as the 10th century! The Glasshouse Set on one of Carlisle’s oldest streets the glasshouse public house and wine bar takes you by surprise. You’re expecting a dark and old style pub but as you enter the bar you’ll be amazed at how modern, light and welcoming the glasshouse is. Set on two levels there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy a quiet pint or glass of wine and sofas to relax in while enjoying the company of friends. If you prefer there are standing areas both at the bar and throughout this truly different public house. Restaurants The Town House The Town House is in the heart of Carlisle and has a colourful and long history. The new proprietor plans to restore it to its former glories. Open 9am-5pm every day except Sunday, the cafe serves true home-made food using local produce, organic where possible. Even the cakes and pastries are home made with no mixes used. The venue is on two floors and has a Victorian and feminine feel. It recently featured on the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are and it has a resident ghost. The Town House specialises in private parties (BYO alcohol) and Victorian themed events. Kannybles restayrant Kannybles restayrant within the Lyne Bank House Hotel lies three miles from Jn 44 of the M6 close to the Scottish border. The restaurant is open from 10am to 9pm and serves an international selection of food as well as bar meals. This former 17th century coaching house also has nine bedrooms. Michelangelo Ristorante Michelangelo has stood the test of time in Carlisle, originally opening its doors in 1989. On entering this city centre eatery you are met by an Italianate fountain and there are four different seating areas to choose from, all with a strong Italian flavour. The menu is very large, catering for every taste, and the restaurant offers some great Happy Hour dining deals. Michelangelo has won various awards from the Italian restaurant community. |
